Twenty years ago -. In the long absence of the Golden Knight Garo, the young Azami (Rin Marumoto) is brought by her foster mother, Houshi Kyado (Yuko Oya), to the Shidouin, a training centre for Marauder Knights and Marauder Houshi. There, under the guidance of Grand Master Sugou (Bob Suzuki), tests were being conducted to select new Garo fighters. The candidates "13" (Kyoya Honda) and "55" (Naoya Kitagawa), who had been recognised for their qualities, studied hard day by day in order to become the "Guardians". Finally, they face their final challenge.

Eight players were gathered for the fourth round. The item "Demon Sword" provides powerful powers. However, those who hold on to it for more than 99.9 seconds will be turned into an "undead" puppet of the Demon Sword - a double-edged sword. In the midst of the players exploring the "Demon Sword" with their eyes on the other side, Tenba (Yusho) gives a thirst to Soraton (Koya Matsudai), who is still unable to fight. Nagumo (Tokito) and Kagetsu (Toman) fight to the death. In the face of the superhuman strength of Hyuga, Kanakaze (Kadoshita Shutaro) finally reaches for his magic sword in order to overcome the battle. Hagiri (Tomoki Maruyama) and Azami (Kyoko Hinami) look on in satisfaction. Kanakaze's fate with the magic sword in his hands...

Soraton (Matsudai Koya) is tormented by remorse after the incident with Hoshiai (Shimizu Naoya), when Nagumo (Tokito) appears before him and the pair head for Tenba's (Yusho) bar, Meteor. Nagumo, who has been conducting his own investigation, makes a proposal to Soraton, Tenba and Kanakaze (Kadoshita Shutaro) in order to uncover the truth behind the game. Meanwhile, Kagetsu (Toman) is pushing forward to realise her own dream, despite being bashed by the public. Then Azami (Kyoko Hinami) appears before Soraton again. Soraton is confused and conflicted by Azami's words. The fourth round was held in the midst of all this. Amou and Kanakaze challenge the overwhelmingly strong Hinata (Reiji). The curtain is cut on a gruelling battle.

There were 18 participants in the third round. The players are seriously killing each other as soon as they start. Soraton (Matsudai Koya) cannot hide his agitation at the bizarre scene. Nagumo (Tokito), Kanakaze (Hidetaro Kadoshita) and Hyuga (Reiji) continue to battle using their own battle strategies. Kagetsu (Toman) shows his true colours and smiles as if he enjoys killing each other. Meanwhile, Tenba (Yusho) recklessly challenges Horror to a fight. Hoshiai (Shimizu Naoya) tells Soraton that there is nothing he wants even if it means taking someone's life, but after witnessing various betrayals, Soraton loses sight of what he should protect and what he believes in.

Players who lost the game are disappearing ... Nagumo (Tokito) starts his own investigation to find out what the strange feeling is. Out of fear of the game, Hoshiai (Shimizu Naoya) consults Soraton (Matsudai Koya) about abstaining from the next battle. Meanwhile, Kyado Azami (Kyoko Hinami) appears before Kagetsu (Toman), who is performing his work in a casual manner. Azami also makes contact with Soraton and Nagumo, and throws deceptive words at them. What is the purpose of these two people...? A new battle begins amidst the intermingling of various thoughts...

The players are each looking for a way out of the dungeon. Kagetsu (Toman) meets UMI (Rui Kurihara), a model he admires, and they decide to work together at UMI's suggestion. Amou (Yusho) and Kanakaze (Kadoshita Shutaro) proceed to fight against players with weapons and increasing ferocity. The demonic hand of horror creeps up on Nagumo (Tokito), who continues to play the game together with Suibei (Minami Keisuke)... They find out that they need a certain 'key' to escape from the dungeon, but Soraton (Matsudai Koya) is unable to obtain the key and the end time of the game is approaching.

After winning the game, Taisuke Nagumo (Tokito) featured the game on his video channel and became a popular video creator. His employer, Yukiya Mizubei, forces him to participate in the next game as well and upload a video that can gain views. Another winner of the game, apparel shop employee Kozuki Takane (Toman), has also become a top model, appearing on the cover of a magazine after a certain photograph. After various successes, the players receive an invitation to the second round of the game. While some of them participate with doubts about the content of the game, Shukai (Momotsuki Nashiko) appears and...

Ryosuke Amou (Yusho), who works in a bar, spends his time fighting in the name of helping people, as if to relieve his daily depression. Then a VR game arrives for him and he logs in. In the game, he finds Kanakaze Dai (Kadoshita Shutaro), with whom he has a history, and Yakuza leader Noubu (Matsuura Yuya), who knows of Tenba's strength and tries to use him. Meanwhile, Soraton (Matsudai Koya) finds an abandoned house in the field that is off-limits to horror, and brings in a group of wounded players. What will be given to the 50 survivors of the first round...

Sona Soraton (Koya Matsudai), a university student, and his best friend Shouri Hoshiai (Naoya Shimizu), a gamer, are leading an ordinary life. One day, they receive a rumoured VR game, and when they activate the VR glasses, the area is transformed into a giant game field, where 100 players have gathered. The guide, Shukai (Momotsuki Nashiko), tells us. The players are told to fight for the Garo armour that shines above their heads, and if they win, they can get whatever they want...

Shiguto befriends a sick girl with no father; Crow battles Eiji.

Haruna is convinced by her brother to quit being a Makai Priest and just be a normal high school student.

While training in the woods, Bikuu discovers a fellow Makai Priest on the run.

Kain worries that Yuna is focusing too much on being a Makai Knight, and not enough on being a Makai Priest, when she cannot summon armor.

Rian befriends a man who defended her and asks him for a place to stay.

A Horror comes to warn a group of his associates of a Makai Knight that killed his group; Mayuri is sent on an errand to get a Makai painting fixed.

Amily and her fellow Makai Priests are in the middle of a mission when they are helped by a Makai Knight.

A grandfather comes to Rekka for help after his granddaughter is attacked by the spirits of fallen Makai Knights.

The jinga was defeated by Garo Sho = Garo Darkness, who gained the power of darkness. However, he was unable to seal Radan. Ryuga and Lume devise a plan to save Rian, who has been knocked unconscious by Jinga's attack. Meanwhile, Daigo's proclamation is sent to Gardo, who feels responsible for everything and has lost confidence.

Ryuga falls into Amiri's trap, and is sucked into the magical mirror, where he continues to fight the demonic beasts that lurk in the jet-black magical mirror space. However, Ryuga is exhausted both mentally and physically, and falls into an abyss. Meanwhile, Ryume rushes to Rian's side, but struggles against the onslaught of Jinga. The countdown to the awakening of Radan goes on mercilessly before the eyes of Gardo and Daigo, who have reached the end of the line.

Riangli is captured by Jinga, who flies away. Amiri, who stayed behind to help Jinga escape, is conversely captured by Ryuga and his group. Telling Ryuga and the others to wait for instructions, Rüme goes after the jinga by herself. Amiri suddenly begins to suffer and faints. When Amiri regains consciousness, she calmly tells them that she is a Demon Lawyer...

Backed by D. Ringo, Yukihime and Haruna, Ryuga, Rian, Gardo and Daigo run towards Radan, which sits on the top floor of a high-rise building. However, Jinga and Amiri, who should have been cornered, smile wryly for some reason. Ryuga and the others reach the room where Radan is located, but the room suddenly transforms into a different space. Eerie moans echo through the room...

The location of Ladan is discovered, but the obstacle is Jinga and Amiri, who are waiting for them there. Thinking that it will not be easy to reach it, Ryuga and the others divide their roles and start investigating. Rian infiltrates inside, Gardo investigates the surroundings, and Ryuga visits Lume. Ryuga believes that he has no chance of winning if he does not break Jinga's dark wards...

Thanks to the efforts of D. Ringo and Haruna, the location of Radan is finally discovered. Yukihime and Rian care for Haruna, who is fatigued from performing the secret technique. With Haruna recovering, they discuss their feelings about Ryuga, Gardo, Daigo and Radan. However, a suspicious man, Ginge (Nagira Kenichi), spies on the three of them from outside the restaurant...

Garde asks Haruna to perform a secret technique to locate Radan. Gardo thinks that the huge evil spirit detected by Rume is Radan, and heads for the swamp with Ryuga and Rian. Meanwhile, Tatsumi (Katsuhiro Higo) is night fishing in the swamp when a bewitching beauty (Mero Imai) suddenly appears and invites him to join her. Haruna prepares to perform a secret technique, but for some reason D. Ringo stops her...

The voice of the doll Haruna was the voice of Gardo's sister Haruna herself. She entrusts Ryuga and Rian with the Dharma Sword, and they rush to rescue Gardo. When Gardo refuses to yield to the horror Geril (Ken Maeda), Jinga and Amiri tell him that they have taken Haruna as a hostage. Gardo decides to prioritise being the protector over Haruna's life, and puts his life on the line to defeat Jinga and the others...

Garudo falls into a trap and is captured by Jinga and Amiri, who put him under severe interrogation. Led by Haruna, a doll dropped by Gardo, Ryuga and Rian head for the Forest of Spirits. Haruna tells them about Gardo's spectacular past. At the same time, businessman Hedera (Yabe Kyosuke), walking near the Forest of Spirits, promises to retrieve the Dharma Sword to a blue butterfly, a servant of the flying Amiri.

Ryume continues his research into Radan and the Dharma Sword, as well as Jinga and Amiri, and discusses them together with Riang. At the same time, Ryuga, who is going around destroying objects in Yinga, is suddenly attacked by the horror Zelaza (Mi Yi mie). Ryuga struggles against Zelaza, who runs away through electric wires. Meanwhile, Gardo, who is searching for the whereabouts of Radan, happens to see Jinga and starts tracking him down.

Daigo, who teaches the children who are the future Demon Knight, is visited by his brother Seiji Hinoha (Hiroyuki Takashima). Daigo and Seiji are happy to see each other again. Meanwhile, the training ground is attacked and the children are eaten by a horror. Ryuga and Rian chase the horror and arrive at Daigo's training ground. A mysterious man, Woska (Funaki Masakatsu), also shows up at the training ground.

Riang wanted to fight together with Gardo, as they are also magical lawbreakers. Taking the Dharma Sword with him, Gardo mocks Ryuga, Rian, Jinga and Amiri, and discovers a wolfsbane rising into the sky. It belonged to Gardo's home, the village of the Fire Clan. That night, Sumida (Michael Tomioka), a man who pretends to be a gourmet, enters the restaurant. He becomes a horror-lessard and preys on the cook.

D. Ringo succeeds in resonating between the Daggers, taking a hint from Gardo's words. Ryuga and Rian approach the Blue Dagger under the guidance of the Red Dagger. When the resonance stops, Jinga and Amiri appear in a black limousine. Jinga takes out the Blue Dagger and provokes Ryuga, telling him to defeat her and take it. Ryuga and Rian accept. However, Jinga had a secret plan.

A man appears at D. Ringo's shop asking to buy a bag. The bag has the same mark on it as the wooden box that previously contained the Yinga object. Ryuga and Rian begin their search using the mark as a clue. Ryuga chases the driver (Aja Kong) carrying the crate, while Rian disguises herself and goes to the antique shop owner Danke (Lou Oshiba)...

Yuki (Aki Umezawa), the woman they saved from the horror Hertzbai a few days ago, has asked Ryuga and Rian to help her find her missing sister Lisa (Emi Kobayashi). Lisa may have been attacked by a horror in the circumstances. Ryuka heeds Yuki's wish and follows Lisa's rumours to the bar's owner, Kaji (Hitoshi Katagiri). Meanwhile, Lisa is locked up in a mysterious room.

Ryuga and Rian feel the presence of horror in an abandoned building. But there was more than one horror. A large number of horrors inhabit the entire building. In Ryuga and Rian's crisis, the magical knight Daigo Akizuki appears. Rian tries to annihilate the horrors with a secret technique. She sees Yoshito (Konno Hiroki), who remains in the building. For some reason, Daigo stops Rika from running out to rescue him.

Robber Hayashi (Kazuki Namioka) finds a wooden box with a mysterious mark while on the run with his companion Hirata. The old knife inside is a shadowy object, and Hayashi is possessed by the horror Bukeri. Sensing the appearance of Bukeri, Ryuga and Rian meet the director of a nursing home (Nagare Hagiwara) and a woman about to get married, Mina (Anri Sakaguchi), during their search.

The seal of the legendary Demon Castle, Ladan, has been broken. Ryuga and Rian are summoned by Lume and asked to search for the Red Dagger and Blue Dagger, which have been separated from the Dharma Sword. At the same time, the Demonic Dharma Master Garde also began his activities to search for the Dagger. With the help of D. Ringo and Yukihime, whom they meet again, Ryuga and Rian reach the Red Dagger, but then Horror Vicuro (Hidekazu Ichise) appears.

Some time after the battle in Line City. Doga Ryuga and Rian, who continue to fight as protectors, encounter a new horror in one of the cities. Meanwhile, the Demon Warrior Gen (Shimojo Atom) has gone to the shrine where the legendary Demon Castle, Radan, is sealed. With a determined look on his face, Gen draws his Dharma Sword. Gazing at him are the mysterious young man, Jinga, and the mysterious beautiful woman, Amiri.

A man and his daughter appear before Raiga and defeat a Horror for him, but the man is actually a Horror himself.

A school girl with an iron giant is attacking people at night and come face to face with Crow.

A music conductor is appearing in front of depressed people and sends Raiga an invitation to join his victims.

Raiga and company are sent to help a Makai Priest named Bikuu deal with a Makai Knight who has succumb to darkness.

On his birthday, Raiga remembers when Rei came to train him on upon turning 10.

A woman has created a 3D theater in a box that is a bit too real for its viewers.

Gonza is interviewed about Raiga and his duties as a Makai Knight.

Mayuri takes care of a Slab Horror, but the Horror host it was in gets away; Makai Priest Shidou shows up to check on Mayuri after she faints in front of Raiga.

Crow tells Raiga of a ritual he's attending to wipe the demon blood from his sword, but the beast used for the ceremony escapes and must be stopped.

A young woman finds a small, fluffy creature and takes him home, but it turns out that this is a lost baby of a Spirit Beast and Raiga shows up to return it to its mother.

A manga artist flips out when one of his employees tries to quit and go solo; Raiga and Mayuri comes across a new manga that contains the ancient language of the Horror.

Raiga gives Gonza the day off and so he meets with a lady friend. But Gonza just ends up musing about Mayumi and not being about to make her smile.

A man finds a naked woman outside and takes her in; Gonza finds a new pet beetle when the watchdogs call Raiga to take care of a Horror.

A man who is attempting suicide is drawn to a house with a big, happy family inside. Upon being invited in for dinner, the family is a lot more sinister than they appear.

Training goes awry and Raiga realizes that he needs to be purified of built up evil ki. Afterward, Raiga meets a time stopping Horror that is difficult to defeat.

Raiga gets nostalgic over a wind chime that he made as a child. Meanwhile, a man is selling wind chimes where the cartoon woman on it comes to life and kills its owner.

Luke (Sein Camus), who fantasises that people shine as stars after they die, commits murder and is possessed by the horror Stellas. Luke appears before the wishing people and turns them into stars one after another. Under official orders from the Senate, Crowe, who has been assigned to fight alongside Thunder Fang as his partner, immediately begins a search for Stellas...

Harima (Kitaro), a projectionist at a desolate cinema, is an extreme admirer of horror films. One day, after being ridiculed by the young president and told that the cinema is closing, Harima is indignant and an old film speaks to him. When Raikage learns of the appearance of a horror film, he rushes to the cinema, only to find that it is a mysterious space that imitates numerous horror films...

Elina Tokiwa (Hinako Saeki), an artist whose motif is death, kills a man in search of true death and is possessed by a horror succubus. Elina, searching for diverse deaths, takes an interest in Mayuri and invites her to her own greenhouse. Preparations are underway for the ceremony to make Rian the new mother of Madou Horrors. On their way to rescue her, Ryuga and his companions find their path blocked by Rivera and SG-1.

Ryuga is reunited with the group, and meets a long lost Makai Priestess. The horrific past of the Master of Madou Horrors is revealed.

The Makai Knights are all torn between giving up their armor and fighting Sigma, who has commandeered a train to the moon.

It turns out that Leo is actually a Makai Knight. So who really is Red Mask?

A Makai Knight is killed right in front of Rei and Leo says goodbye to Kaoru as she gets the final inspiration for her picture book. Rei and Kouga go hunting for the creature that killed a Makai Knight when they find the man in the red mask, and his identity soon becomes known.

During a run-in with a Horror, Kouga remembers the first time he encountered it during his training as a boy, and the friends he made at that time.

Kouga and Leo get word that a Makai Knight has attacked another Makai Knight. The two set out to help a familiar face.

After Kouga and Leo finish a training session, Zaruba spontaneously combusts. Kouga calls Jabi to help, who goes off to repair Zaruba, but the man in the red mask appears before her and attacks.

Rei stumbles upon a car accident that left no bodies, which means a Horror must be involved. During his investigation, he finds a familiar face.

Kouga goes off to have all the evil ki cleansed from of him that has built up after each battle. After he returns, a Horror that can manipulate time appears and challenges the Golden Knight.

Kouga is off hunting a Horror and so Kaoru tags along on Leo's journey to find a Spirit Beast.

Kaoru and Kouga visit a play, with Kouga storming out before the end. After the show, the lead actor is killed by a Horror.

An ancient samurai makes a deal with a Horror and is resurrected in present day. He is in search of a worthy opponent and finds Rei, who reminds him of the Makai Knight he saw as a child.

Leo abandons Kouga as he escorts an obnoxious elder Makai Priest to deliver a pelt.

Rei wonders if Kouga has told Kaoru about the seal on his chest; people are flocking to a weird looking tree outside of an old couple's home.

An artist designs manhole covers that are then placed all over the city and become gates for Horrors.

A Horror is running a casino and Kouga is sent undercover to find who is in charge.

Kouga and Leo are delivering Leo's Gouryuu to the western district, but after a battle it rebels and starts to turn into a Horror.

A woman is using street lights to abduct young men; Kaoru sees Kouga again and tries to follow him.

Kouga returns to take care of a new Horror, but afterward is attacked by a strange figure in a red mask.

Saving Kaoru's life, she and Kouga admit they are glad of the choices they have made, unaware of what is to come. During that time, Gonza encounters a strange man who leaves him a letter, calling out Kouga to Winter Gate. Though warned that it would be trap, Kouga goes anyway. Arriving there, he is meets the man as he tells him he has until dawn to kill him. Fighting through Horror-possessed gunmen before the host appears as the Horror Bonafletz, Garo manages to strike down the Horrors before striking Bonafletz down. However, Bonafletz turn out to be security guard as the host reveals himself to be not only human, but also the father of Misato Kamisugawa, the vessel of the Horror Moloch who Kouga killed. Kamisugawa then proceeds to ask if killing those possessed by Horrors justifies the sadness their loved ones had to endure as Kouga refuses to take his life. However, revealing the Eastern Watchdogs gave him the means to enact his revenge, Kamisugawa uses the Horror Dagger holding Molch's essence on himself. Becoming Moloch, Kamisugawa realized the pain his daughter suffered as he pleas Kouga to kill him as the sun rises. Back at the manor, Karou screams in fright when a strange mark appears on her neck.

With time running out, Kouga leaves for the Forest of Glen. Though knowing he would die, Kouga convinces the gatekeeper Tamu to give him safe passage after she tests his character. Fighting his way though the forest's traps and many Horrors, Kouga finds Kaoru's disembodied soul and convinces her to keep on living as he entrusts Zaruba to get her back into her body while he goes to the Barankas. However, Kouga ends up facing the Barankas Fruit's guardian. Enabled by the being to assume his Makai Knight form, Garo summons Gouten to battle Grou Dragon physically and ethically. Though Rei helped Kouga at the last second, Grou Dragon accepts its defeat before dissolving. With Rei carrying him back, Kouga manages to give Kaoru the Barankas fruit just in time.

After donning their Soul Metal Armor, Garo and Zero have an epic battle with Jabi watching as the two combatants are forced out of their armor. However, before Rei can kill a weakened Kouga, Jabi intervenes and spirits him off to where Kaoru is. After Jabi tells her that Kouga was actually trying to find a way to save her life, a confused Kaoru runs off before Gonza finds her and brings her to the cabin where Kouga spent his childhood. As Kaoru regains her faith in him, after his wounds were tended to, Kouga asks Jabi to help him enter the Forest of Glen. After revealing the legend behind the Horror-eating Makai Knight and the true nature of the Eastern Watchdogs, Jabi proceeds to perform the ritual to send the Horror Daggers into the underworld with his help. However, before she could finish telling Kouga something important, Jabi is seemingly killed by Kodama, the Watchdogs' servant. Kouga attempts to fight the stronger Kodama as they fight for the Horror blades. Rei arrives, but is unable to send the Horror Blades to the other side as they turn into a giant Horror. Neither Garo and Zero could harm the titanic Horror as the Horror-eating Makai Knight appears and absorbs the beast before taking his leave.

After Kaoru runs off once learning the apparent truth that he used her as Horror bait, Kouga learns from Gonza that Amon has been murdered. Summoned by the Eastern Watchdogs, Kouga learns that a Maki Priestess named Jabi has took twelve Horror Daggers from them and was Amon's killer. However, not believing his childhood friend killed Amon, Kouga finds Jabi. Though asking why she stole the daggers, Jabi reveals that Amon was actually murdered by a rumored Horror-eating Makai Knight and that she intends to personally send the blades into the underworld. Forced into fighting Jabi for the blades, Kouga manages to restraint her. Rei, tricked by the Watchdogs to kill Kouga and Jabi for them, arrives with Kaoru as he demands the Horror blades. After tricking Rei, Kouga holds him off as Jabi takes Kaoru to a safe area.

After telling Gonza about what Amon told him about a means to save Kaoru, still hiding the truth from the girl as he promised to protect her, Kouga learns that a Horror named Haru appeared. Entering the body of a goldfish, Haru takes advantage of a man named Tonuma to have him feed it women in order to assimulate their features to gain a human-like appearance. After being unable to find the Horror, Kouga is forced to use Kaoru as bait. But temporary halted by the other Horrors attracted to Kaoru, Kouga is barely able to get to her in time as she was about to be fed to Haru. Kouga shatters the glass with the incomplete Horror revealed as it is breathing heavily before beheading Haru and restraining himself from killing Tonuma. However Haru's head reveals Kouga's intention for Kaoru as Horror bait in its dying breath, with a heart-broken Kaoru running off.

Kouga arrives to the home of his father's old friend, the Makai Priest Amon. Explaining that this is a night when Horrors cannot enter their world, Amon reveals that he and Taiga played a game of Bar Chess and wishes Kouga to finish what his father started. During the match, Amon reveals he knows of Kaoru and suspects that Kouga is protecting her the same way his father protected him. However, Kouga admits he used Kaoru as a tool at first to find Horrors, but he grew to love her and is intent to save her. Impressed, Amon reveals he knows of the item Kouga intends to save her with: The Barankas Fruit within the Forest of Glen, which he intends to get for Kouga once it is ripened. Though Kouga is close to losing the game, and ten years of his life, Amon post pones the game like Taiga did years ago. But before Kouga leaves for home, Amon presents him with another revelation: the chance that his father's pupil Barago is still alive and events will unfold where he has to know who is truly friend and who is truly foe.

After confronting the Horror Gagoiru in the west, outside his area, Kouga is ordered not to set foot in the area again. Meanwhile, during her attempt to uncover the truth behind the final blank page, Kaoru finds a clue in an interview by sculptor Kouhei Kuramachi who states her father as an inspiration to him. Entering the western territory, Kaoru finds Kouhei's studio. However, learning that Kouhei never met her father, Kaoru is forced to run for her life when she realizes he is a Horror's host. Though Zero comes to her aid, Kouhei flings her over the ledge with Kouga arriving to save her in spite of the disobeying the Watchdogs. Forced to stay at the sidelines, Kouga witnesses Zero battle Gagoiru, killing the Horror as its host was in awe of Zero's beauty. After being thanked by Kaoru, Zero walks off while revealing his true name: Rei.

While resting, Zero dreams of his past with Shizuka and their ill father, both of whom were murdered by an armoured figure who he comes to believe was Garo. Waking up in the present, Zero finds Kaoru visiting him but drives her away. Summoned by the Eastern Watchdogs, Zero is ordered by them to support Kouga in sealing a gateway and slaying the 100 Horrors within it. They enter the Demon Realm and eventually destroy the gateway's energy source, but Zero still has his doubts about Garo's part in his step family's murder.

This is a special recap episode, narrated by Zaruba. This recap episode features information about the characters, the story, and the villains of the series that developed so far. The only new information is that Karune Ryuuzaki pays Kaoru for their sessions. The Horrors that appeared so far has also been named. The last bit of the episode shows Garo fighting Horrors on board a falling train, surviving as he is revealed to have overheard Zaruba's whole recap conversation during the fight.

Gonza and Zaruba reflect on Kouga's growth as a knight, remembering him training with his father, Taiga. Out one night with his father, they encounter a Horror, with Taiga becoming Garo to destroy it. Later, Kouga witnesses his father dying at the hands of what he thought to be a Horror, though it is actually a figure named Barago. Kouga trains for years to be able to use the Garoken and fight as the new Garo, eventually becoming the man he is today.

The trickster Horror Dantalian lures people to play his coin game but, when they lose in his fixed games, he devours their soul. Dantalian tries this trick on Kaoru and takes her soul. After facing off against Zero, Kouga encounters Dantalian and competes in his games to recover Kaoru's soul. He eventually succeeds, destroying Dantalian and reuniting Kaoru's body with her soul.

The Horror Asmodai appears and, using his act as a puppeteer, causes groups of people to kill each other before devouring their remains. While going through her father's things, Kaoru discovers the unpublished book from her dreams with the blank page at the end of it. Asmodai strikes again before the Makai Knights eventually destroying him.

Kaoru is hired by school headmaster Yagi to restore a mural of a goddess her father painted years ago but no record exists of what the damaged area looked like. While purifying his sword, Kouga is sucked into an alternate reality where he meets a version of Garo. Kouga, having defeated 100 Horrors, must face an ordeal. Kouga instead tries to battle the Horror Humpty, but cannot hurt it. Kouga soon passes the ordeal and is granted the Makai Horse Gouten, which he uses to defeat Humpty. Meanwhile, Kaoru remembers her father's inspiration for the mural, and restores the goddess to her former glory.

While training, Kouga is a bit annoyed of Kaoru drawing his hand. Gonza tries to quell the situation by offering English tea, but Kouga leaves in frustration while Kaoru is wondering why she has not been able to draw lately. Meanwhile, a young barkeep named Misato Kosugawa, who became a serial killer after the suicide of her lover, ends up becoming the Horror's host to complete her collection of ideal fingers to complete a set of hands. Sensing Kaoru entering her place of business, Misato decides to kill her for her finger while Kaoru is in a drunken stupor when ZERO arrives and drives the Horror away with Kouga's aid. Assuming its true form, Moloch battles Garo and is slain with only Misato's engagement ring left. Kaoru and Kouga return home with Kaoru sketching his hands again as he rests, stating that his hands are not dirtied as she thinks about her desire to draw something important.

Unable to find information on Rei, Kouga and Gonza speculate that he is from the western district. Kouga made arrangements for the Barankas fruit with Gonza and he heads out for his routine of sealing and entrances used by Horrors; finding that Rei has been doing his job. Kaoru gets a new job as a waitress and Rei stops where she is working for a table full of sweets. Soon after, Rei attempts to kill Kaoru in the back entrance, but Kouga appears to stop him. After having Kaoru be taken back to his manor, Kouga confronts Rei as the two fight their way through Shinjuku's Capital Building where they get a brief interference from a Horror before the two assume their Makai Knight forms. The two fight their way down the Capital Building before they run out of time with Garo the winner to ZERO's dismay.

Kouga hunts Horrors at a local cemetery, losing one when he is wounded by a dagger from an unknown assailant. Running into a middle aged prostitute named Kotomi, who just beat up a man and hurting two younger girls for their money, Kouga runs off after he checks her for possession and finds her clean, just as Kotomi is quickly possessed by the Horror. The next day, after getting his injury tended to and negating the poison, Kouga learns from the Watchdogs that the weapon is a Dagger of Haja which only Makai Knights would use. Meanwhile, forming a pact with the Horror inside her, Kotomi regains her youth as she starts killing off men. Meanwhile, while looking for a job, Kaoru is saved by a couple of seedy guys by a mysterious young man, whose words put her not at ease. Kaoru shows up for the job of bartender before witnessing Kotomi killing up her employer, Kotomi chases Kaoru to the harbor as Kouga appears. By then, another dagger appears belonging to the man who saved Kaoru earlier, telling Kouga he is also a Makai Knight. Annoyed, Utoque attacks as Garo battles and slays the Horror. Kotomi asks for help as she dies, but Garo says it is impossible as she allowed the Horror to possess her in the first place. Soon after, Rei formally introduces himself, before confusing Kouga and Kaoru and taking taking his leave.

Remembering Kouga's words to her during the Morax incident, Kaoru decides to live in the Saezima manor's guest room to his dismay. Meanwhile, a pharmacist named Shitoshi Morino is one the run after being made a suspect in the murder of a woman named Reiko Sagashi. Kidnapping a high school girl as his hostage, he is confronted by his old rival turned cop Hanasawa. As Morino and Hanasawa get into an argument over the matter, they and the girl soon realize they are not alone in the warehouse. Arriving in the area, Kouga encounters a moth which embodies a heart-broken woman's final thoughts prior to becoming a Horror's vessel. Following the moth, Kouga learns the Horror is Lunarken, a sadistic glutton who corners her prey in order to feed during a full moon. Arriving to the warehouse and knocking the three humans out, Garo battles Lunarken and slays her. By the time the three humans came to, with no memory of the night's events, Morino is cleared of all charges against him.

Arriving to a hospital once noted of a Horror sighting, Zaruba cannot seem to detect anything out of the unusual. The next day, after being evicted, Kaoru forces her way into Asami's place, unintentionally getting her sick as she is taken to the hospital the same time Kouga attempts a second look over, uneasy about Zaruba inability to sense their surroundings. He then up with the wife of one of Dr. Tategami's patients, who she last saw going to see the doctor to thank him. Interested why a Horror would spare human lives to eat them, Kouga meets Tategami who reveals himself as a host to the Horror Pazuzu who explains he is preparing his meals for finer taste. Learning he cannot summon his Soul Metal Armor, Kouga is forced to fall back with Pazuzu summons his Horror staff to kill him. After refueling his Madoubi, Kouga decides to use Kaoru to take out the source of the anti-Makai barrier Pazuzu erected. As Kaoru is forced into it, Kouga battles the Horrors until he can become Garo, slaying Pazuzu after defeating him as a response to his final wish to taste Kaoru.

After finding the victim of a Horror, with the demon nowhere in sight, Kouga brings the dust remains to the Watchdogs who reveal it to be the work of Morax, a Horror that takes the form of timepieces which Kouga has never faced before. Working in a bicycle delivery service, Kaoru is tricked into finding the Saezima estate where Kouga wears her to stay away from any time piece for the day. By then, Kaoru learns of Kouga's Madogu Zaruba, who reveals the ring she wears as actually a part of him to the girl's disgust. Soon after, to further insure her safety, Kouga had Kaoru occupy the guest room with Gonza paying delivery fee as compensation. By nightfall, Kouga finds Morax as he devours a high school girl named Ayano, jump onto another girl to evade the Makai Knight through various hosts. However, taking a delivery for her shrink, Kaoru ends up being taken hostage by Morax as he assumes the form of an old clock tower. Fighting the Horror's defenses, Garo manages to rip out Morax from his vessel and kill him. With Morax dead the building fell apart and Kouga carries the unconscious Kaoru to safety before she comes to. Giving Kaoru back her watch, she attempts to demand answers when she realizes she is behind on deliveries.

After having another Horror-related dream, and attempting to dodge her landlord, Kaoru attempts to make some money as a melon bread salesgirl to make ends meet. But seeing Kouga, she runs after to get the money he owes her when she loses him. Entering the chamber of the Eastern Watchdogs to purify his blade, Kouga receives orders to get after the Horror Istarb who possesses the body of Azusa Kujo. Finding Kaoru waiting for him, Kouga gives her a ring as he promises to get her money soon. Meeting with her best friend Asami, Kaoru learns of the IT business proposal Kujo that was doing prior to becoming a Horror's vessel. Kujo instantly develops an interest in the girl as she is about to eat her when after scamming $50,000 yen from her. However, a combination of dumb luck and Garo stopping Kujo with Istarb slain. After learning of Kujo's scamming the next day, Kaoru is relived when Kouga brings back her money. From there, Kouga explains that the Horrors are demons from ancient times that target people with darkness in their hearts, telling Kaoru that hers is pure as he explains the ring given to her is a protective charm. As he leaves, Kaoru questions why Kouga has saved her life.

After having a dream of herself as a child, reading a picture book titled The Black Flame and The Golden Wind, being attacked by demonic creatures as a golden knight saves her, Kaoru Mitsuki prepares for her debut tomorrow as an artist. Meanwhile, a man named Kouga Saezima just finished his training when his butler Gonza gives him a document that directs him to the art gallery Kaoru is at. After seeing the girl not to be possessed, he follows the frighten girl to the art dealer Taisuke Taniyama, offering to play one of Kaoru's pieces early and asking for the girl to take it to his manor. Once alone, Kouga attempts to kill Taniyama who runs off and put the entire building on lockdown. After taking out Taniyama's traps, with Kaoru in the crossfire, Kouga battles Taniyama until the demon possessing him, a woman-eating Horror named Anglay, bursts out of his host and uses another painting to assume another physical form. Telling Kaoru to run, Kouga transforms into the golden knight from Kaoru's dreams. Though Garo manages to kill the Horror, some of its blood splashes on Kaoru's face and arm. Though he has to kill her for being stained with the blood of a Horror, Kouga spares her life to use her as bait for attracting Horrors. When she comes to, Kouga apologizes for ruining her big break before walking off with her painting.

Kaoru awakens to find a man resembling Gonza. He tells her that he is a god of pictures and they are within her Makai world. She demands to leave, but the god sets her an ordeal to complete. Having done 1000 paintings, she can summon the Gold Pencil, but she must meet someone who loves her paintings first.
