It is a semi-autonomous entity - not officially recognized state - within the territory of Moldova, between the Dniester River and the Ukrainian border. It is an area of Europe that when you visit it as a traveler, you feel like you are traveling in time and going back to the time of the Soviet Union.
Eutychis explores the capital Tiraspol with its impressive fountain and historical monuments. It passes through the town of Bender which was a battlefield in the 1992 war of independence and admires the famous Tighina castle which was a bone of contention in the Russo-Turkish wars. He learns about the history of Transnistria and why it has two names. He encounters over ten statues of Lenin and a very impressive statue of Prometheus while eating delicious but very cheap food in a "Soviet canteen".
