A New Start
Air date: 03/Jan/2023
Summary

With drug addiction, the physical and emotional rewards after use create a strong association in the brain to want those rewards again. Consequently, neural pathways develop which then influence the individual to use again. Jared Cooke's story depicts how his past addiction led him down a dark path where he would do anything for his next fix jeopardising important relationships. Cheating, lying and stealing along the way he finally landed in prison. His recovery and redemption beautifully demonstrates how one can overcome these learned and highly reinforcing behaviours through a willingness to do the work and humbly accepting help.

Burn Out
Air date: 21/Jul/2020
Summary

Have you ever felt like you have reached the end of your capacity, that your tanks have completely run dry, and that a few nights of good sleep or a holiday won't fix it? Burnout is a state of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion, caused by excessive and prolonged stress, and it is estimated that almost a third of our population have experienced this condition at some point in their career. Individuals in burnout experience a reduced sense of accomplishment, a loss of personal identity, an inability to cope with ongoing demands, and are at higher risk of significant mental illness and health complications. In a world that glorifies long hours and accomplishment, and with constant expectations of 'being on' in the digital space, recognising signs of burnout, and playing the 'long-game' more often, are important keys to protect our wellbeing and prevent a damaging crash and burn.

Just as we set property lines around our land, we need to set mental, physical, emotional and spiritual boundaries in our life. Setting healthy boundaries can feel uncomfortable and even create guilt, but learning this skill is essential for healthy relationships, good mental health, and ultimately, our freedom and peace.

Perseverance
Air date: 23/Jun/2020
Summary

Life is not always straight forward. It can throw us a lot of curve balls and it is up to us to decide how we are going to manage those situations. Every decision we make leads us to where we are today. When things get hard, that is not the time to give up, blame or avoid. Everyone has the ability to be successful in a chosen area of life despite challenges. It is not our talents, IQ, or socioeconomic status that determines success. Having grit, that tenacity to persevere (despite the obstacles) towards a long term goal you are passionate about, is what ultimately leads to success and greater joy in life. Jo Bouris and Sarah Harriott are joined by Lize Andrews to discuss perseverance with special guests Olympic swimmer Daniel Smith and singer Tarryn Stokes.

I Am the Provider
Air date: 02/Apr/2019 · Runtime: 30 min
Summary

What does it mean to be 'The Provider' in the context of family? What comes to mind? Every family functions differently and the answer will depend on individuals own experience. Whatever it might be, has fulfilling this role ever just been about who goes to work, how many hours they do or bringing home that pay cheque? Be That thinks it's worth reconsidering what it means to be 'The Provider' for a family. Beneath the surface of it all, does it requires a lot more vulnerability and availability than we've been accustomed to?

Summary

The Be That crew are hoping to shed some light on an issue that affects everyone in some way or at some point in their lives - mental health. Society has come a long way in normalising and embracing it as a genuine health issue but there still exists a stigma when it comes to culture's attitudes toward who it's supposed to affect and how to deal with it. This week's topic is Healthy Emotions, and in the studio are two amazing Aussie men who've had very different experiences with mental health, but shared similar journeys in having found the courage to reach out and talk about their emotions.

Air date: 19/Mar/2019 · Runtime: 30 min
Summary

So, what if you stopped and asked yourself what really mattered to you, even if it challenges what's become normal or comfortable for you? And what would it really cost you to chase after it, or not?
