The murder of a dead gym owner points to her wealthy fiancee and a former business pastner.

Holly and Mike investigate the death of Shauna Celine, a public relations executive for White Thunder Designs who appeared to have been prostituting herself on this side. When the police search the deceased's house they find a date book that mentions the name of lawyer Jessica Hammond--a teacher whom Holly highly respected. After questioning Ms. Hammond about her meeting with Shauna, Michael believes she's not being straightforward with them. Meanwhile, Captain Lipschitz worries about what to get Frannie for their 25th wedding anniversary; Holly begins to doubt her choice to go to law school.

Connie Bayliss, an actress-turned-play producer, asks her old friend Captain Lipschitz to assign Holly to investigate the murder of her leading actress--the only catch is that Holly must go undercover as the actress taking the deceased's place. The main suspect is Jerry Manning, the play's director, whose motive was that the Bayliss' were planning on dropping him when the play hit the big screen. Meanwhile, Connie, who's researching her next role as a cop, tags along as Michael investigates--but he is soon annoyed by her attempts to be helpful.

While working at Sunrise House--a shelter for battered women--Holly receives a distress call from Sharon Grayson who says her husband is going to kill her. When Mike and Holly arrive at the scene, they find the husband dead--with two bullets in his body--and Sharon is nowhere to be seen. While Holly believes that Sharon was truly in danger, no one seems to agree, including Allie Grayson, the deceased's daughter, Michael and Donovan. Holly changes her mind, however, when some evidence turns up that shows that Sharon may not really be who she says she is.

Holly and Mike investigate the death of Kelly Shepherd--the wife of record producer Mack Shepherd. All evidence points to Bobbie Bodine, an aspiring young singer whose daddy Lucien "Bayou" Boudreau has been using the record company to launder his mob money. Meanwhile, Kate Masters, Michael's ex-fiancee, arrives in Palm Beach to tell Mike that she has left his brother to come back to him.

When the strangled body of Cyndi Parker washes ashore, Mike and Holly are assigned to the case. Their chief suspect is Ronnie Martin, a rising football quarterback who was at the Half Moon Club with the deceased the night she was murdered. When Mike and Holly question Terri Roman, the manager of the Arizona Apaches, about Cyndi's death, she denies any knowledge of Cyndi's try-out for their cheerleading squad. Meanwhile, retauranteur Peter Ricci, and son of mobster Dominic Ricci, courts Holly after a "chance" meeting in a jewelry store.

The time has come for Sargeant Chris Lorenzo's funeral service. Though offered a very big promotion weeks before by Lipschitz, Rita cannot bear to stay in the same job without Chris. The episode (and era) ends with Rita bidding a tearful farewell to Lipschitz at Chris' gravesite. She walks away and the following week is the official beginning of a new era with new detectives.

Holly goes to Chris and Rita for help after a detective, Ray Quiller, attempts to rape her. Even though the odds are against her, Holly files a complaint with Internal Affairs. After Quiller is murdered, Rita, who has been promoted to Chief of Detectives, must put Holly on administrative leave. After Chris obtains evidence incriminating a drug lord, Rita is kidnapped. The trade of the evidence for Rita ends tragically.

After being shot during a botched ransom drop, Chris goes into cardiac arrest and dies in a very pregnant Rita's arms at the hospital where he's been since the shooting. Meanwhile, Lipschitz and the new team still try to find the man who just took out their star detective.

A newly wed Chris and Rita discover they are expecting their first child. Their joy is short-lived, however when Rita is kidnapped. After making what seemed to be a successful ransom drop in exchange for Rita at a skate park, a man dressed in full hockey gear, skates up and shoots Chris mulitple times. Despite the bullet-proof vest, Chris is severely wounded because the bullets were specialized ""cop-killers"".

While Lipshitz isn't happy that Chris and Rita went and got married (in a private beach ceremony), he and the rest of the precint decide to throw a surprise shower for them anway and we are introduced to 2 new detectives.

Unable to hide their feelings for each other any longer, Chris and Rita secretly get married in a private beach ceremony. They try to hide this from the Captain but he finds out and is livid.

An old friend of Chris' comes to town with a volleyball tour and their relationship begins to intensify. One of the players is murdered and an obsessed fan becomes a suspect until he, too, is found dead. Meanwhile, Chris sets out to buy a new car.

A man with connections to a male prostitution ring is found dead. Chris, under protest, goes undercover as a male escort to find the killer. Meanwhile, Captain Lipschitz sets Rita up with his godson, who has a secret to reveal.

While in high speed pursuit of a murder suspect, Chris hits a teenager who ran a red light. After the teenager dies, Chris has trouble coping with the accident. He finds himself in trouble with the police department after he pushes a prominent Palm Beach family too hard while investigating the murder.

A socialite is murdered and her beautician is the prime suspect. Unbeknownst to Chris and Rita, the beautician's roommate, a manicurist, has been having affairs with clients' husbands. Meanwhile, a new lawyer puts the moves on Chris and irritates Rita.

After a pimp is murdered, two of his employees become suspects. Chris becomes involved with one of the suspects, Maddie, a hooker who is raising her teenage brother. Rita begins to doubt Chris's objectivity as he becomes closer to Maddie.

A model is murdered. At the request of Paul Clifton, the model's ex-husband and photographer, Rita meets with him at his home. He puts her in a compromising position when he makes her lunch and takes a picture of her. When this picture is delivered to the police department, Chris and Captain Lipschitz begin to question Rita's ability to be objective.

A novelist's assistant is murdered. Chris and Rita encounter the deceitful world of publishing when the novelist, Jackie McMillan, and her drunken husband become prime suspects.

Tina and Alexa, two college roommates, go to the police station after continuously receiving harassing phone calls. Chris tells them that he is from Homicide and cannot help them. The next day, Tina shows up dead in her car, and Alexa says it is all Chris' fault. Later that night, while Alexa and her boyfriend Jeff are in bed together, Jeff whispers to Alexa, "I know what scares you"--the same thing the killer used to say to Tina. Alexa locks herself in the bathroom, and once Jeff leaves, she goes to the police station and tells them what happened. So Chris and the Captain decide to investigate Jeff Chadwick's past. Meanwhile Rita is busy with the Costanzo Case; and Chris tries to smooth things out between his friends Rick and Liz Faraday--who are arguing over the same salary issues Chris and Jillian argued about.

A New York Private Investigator, Jerry Banning, is found shot to death in his hotel room. The only evidence the two Sams have to work with is the six telephone calls Banning made while in Palm Beach--five of which were to the Hamilton residence. So Chris and Rita decide to call Meridian Security and ask Banning's boss, "Champagne" Tony Morella, what Banning was doing in Palm Beach. Tony had not known where Banning had disappeared to, so he comes to Palm Beach--where he discovers that his old friend Harry Lipschitz is now working for the Palm Beach Police Department. Meanwhile Morella uses his friendship with Lipschitz to get info on the case, and then uses this knowledge for his own personal gain. Also: Keisha brings her daughter's exotic flu to the office; and Chris' long-planned Caribbean Fantasy Vacation with Jillian is ruined when he catches it.

When Lorraina Garvey is found stabbed to death, the only clue Chris and Rita have is a call placed to the station reporting a red corvette leaving the murder site just about the time of the murder. At the crime scene, Rita finds an appointment book with the name Michael written in it many times. Upon talking to Lorraina's personal assistant, Rita discovers that the man in the book is Michael Ferraro--one of her old foster brothers. When Rita talks to Michael, he gives her a bogus alibi; and as he leaves, Rita notices that he owns a red corvette. While Donovan and everyone else just want to convict Michael, Rita believes that he is really innocent, and wants to help him. Meanwhile, Chris must nurse his aching back back to health after he his fall from a ladder while helping Rita paint her house.

Chris and Rita investigate the death of Dan Carslisle, the owner of an extravagant country club. When they talk to the wife, Valerie, she says that they heard someone breaking into the house, and her husband went down to see who it was. While he was downstairs, Mr. Carslisle was shot by the intruder. She also tells them that a teenager at the club, Carter Ward, has a big crush on her, writes her love notes, and could have been the person who killed her husband, out of jealousy. When Chris and Rita question Cart, he says that he and Mrs. Carslisle really do have a relationship, and that Mrs. Carslisle told him that he had killed Mr. Carslisle while stopping him from beating her--Cart was drunk from champagne at the time. Lance and Lorenzo head back to Mrs. Carslisle's house to investigate further, to see who is telling the truth. Meanwhile, Rita and Eric try to work out their problems, but Eric's past may come back to haunt him.

Steven Kincaid, a famous ballet star, is stabbed in the back while getting some food from the refrigerator. When Lance and Lorenzo investigate, they discover that Kincaid was sleeping with his wife Camilla's twin sister, Priscilla Meadows. Camilla and Priscilla were seen fighting in a bar a few days earlier for this same reason. While Rita talks to Catherine Walden--the woman who was funding Kincaid's troupe, Chris talks to Kincaid's director Gene, Priscilla's husband. Gene says that he knew about his wife's infidelity, and didn't care. Meanwhile, Lance and Lorenzo search for the murder weapon which is nowhere in sight; and Rita is worried that Eric is spending his limited money supply too extravagantly, and that he may have a drinking problem.

Jack Keith, a Private Investigator whom Chris knew, is found murdered. While investigating, Chris and Rita discover that he was working on a case for Paul Ricker, a wealthy computer programmer; Ricker had hired Keith to see if his wife was having an affair. When Ricker also shows up dead, Lance and Lorenzo talk to Ricker's wife Suzanne, a friend of Rita's. With some more investingating, they discover that Suzanne was once a prostitute, and testified against her pimp, Bobby. They believe Bobby, now out of jail, was blackmailing Suzanne--but she denies everything to Rita. Meanwhile, Chris has a problem with allowing Jillian to pay for things.

Tamara Atkins, an ex-employee of Donnie Dogs' "Dream Girls," is found dead from an apparent suicide in front of a hotel building. In talking to the staff of the hotel, Chris and Rita discover that Tamara and another girl were at a reception for the Martco company the previous night--perhaps as the entertainment. When Lance and Lorenzo talk to Wayne Thornton, the owner of Martco, he denies everything. So Chris and Rita decide to search for the other girl who was at the party, in hopes that she may be able to shed some light on the case. When Christine, the other party-goer--and an employee of Donnie's club--winds up dead, Donnie Dogs threatens Lance and Lorenzo that they have 24 hrs. before he will get revenge on the guy who killed Christine. Meanwhile, Harry moves out of his house because Fran is "too controlling," and moves in with Chris.

A rich old man, Bart Crowley, is stabbed to death in a sauna by his young girlfriend, Audrey Lowe. The body is found in a sand trap at Bay Sands Country Club by Chris, who was playing a round of golf with Donovan at the time. The two Sam's soon discover that the killer must have used a golf cart to move the body to the sand trap--and, coincidentally, a cart is found to be missing from the pro shop. As they investigate, Lance and Lorenzo find a diamond from a tennis bracelet, and the victim's blood, in a sauna at the Country Club. Meanwhile, Chris' father, Benny Lorenzo, flies in to meet Jillian and her mother; and George is happy dating a young college student--but is upset to discover that Chris and Rita have put the young lady at the top of their suspect list.

A girl, Kelly Anderson, walks into the police station and tells Chris and Rita that she thinks her singer boyfriend, Brian Fairchild, has been shot at rock star Shana Rose's home. When they get to the house, Malcolm Rose, Shana's husband, says that he shot warning shots--but that Brian climbed over the gate and ran away. The next day Malcolm shows up dead in his pool, and all evidence points to Brian--who went to the house earlier that day to pick up some demo tapes he left there. When Brian tells Lance and Lorenzo that he didn't do it, they believe him, since the alarm at the house was professionally cut. Meanwhile, on a bet with Rita, Chris tries to make a list of all his past girlfriends.

When a mud wrestler named Tanya is murdered, a voice witness, Joey Mellman, talks to Chris and Rita and says that he can help them catch the killer. Soon, Lance and Lorenzo find Joey tagging along throughout their entire investigation, interrupting them, and causing problems. When the two Sams go to Tanya's house, they find Cindi Dann, the woman Tanya shared a dressing room with, already there. They find out that Tanya had many boyfriends, as well as a husband, and a big drug problem. They talk to the husband, Paul Yeager, and get his alibi, but when it doesn't check out, he is first on the suspect list. Meanwhile, the captain must take Joey into his home under protective custody when someone tries to run him over.

Winston Krane is murdered, and it appears to be two S&M people who did it. So Rita goes undercover to a club called Floggers, where she is immediately recognized as a cop. The people there say they had nothing to do with the killings, but they will contact Rita with any further information they find. The rest of the Krane family is a highly disfunctional bunch: There is the grandson Dell and his girlfriend Schoo, Dell's mother Caroline--who's husband committed suicide--and Winston's sister Karen. Donna, the maid, overheard Winston and Caroline fighting two nights before the murder; Caroline was upset that Winston was going to change his will, and no longer make her the sole beneficiary. So Lance and Lorenzo begin to investigate Carloine--much to Dell's displeasure. Meanwhile, Karen tells Rita she remembers her, and that her father used to bring her to the mansion when she was little.

A woman, Heather Sinclaire, is found dead in her apartment by her roommate/lover Marci Fuller; she was killed by a blow to the head from a baseball bat. Lance and Lorenzo investigate to find that Heather and Marci worked for a service run by Atticus Dunn, called Red Flag. This service sends women on missions to test the fidelity of married or soon-to-be-married men. The two Sam's get a list of Heather's past assignments and start investigating them. Soon, they come across an open case that involved a father hiring Atticus to test the fidelity of his daughter Shannon's fiancee, Jonathan Sharp. Chris and Rita think Heather may have gotten the evidence to close the case, and was bribing Jonathan with it. Meanwhile, Eric tells Rita that he's thinking of moving to Palm Beach, and that he's falling in love with her.

Chris and Rita investigate the death of Roland Ballentine. After talking to the deceased's doctor, they discover that the man was murdered; Roland had taken amal nitrate--something he would not have done on his own since he knew he had heart problems. Lance and Lorenzo talk to Roland's son Junior, a constant drunk, and his niece Claire. They find that Junior and Roland were sleeping with the same woman, Eve Kinsley--a stripper who worked for Donnie Dog's "Dream Girls". Chris and Rita also discover that Junior has a gambling problem, and that he needed the inheritance he got to pay off his debts--so all the evidence points to Junior. Meanwhile, Chris and Jillian discover some problems with their relationship when Chris over-reacts to Jillian's colleague's comments about their doctor-patient relationship; and the captain reveals his hobby of collecting baseball cards.

Costello is approached by solicitor Dani Kakwani, whose nephew Rashid is wanted for extradition by US authorities for his supposed role in a bomb outrage at an Arizona university. The American embassy is keen to offer a deal in order to hurry the process but Costello believes their information is false and that he was not where they claim.

Costello is engaged by euthanasia campaigner and solicitor Aisha Wiseman to defend Sarah Stephens, accused of helping her tetraplegic daughter to die. Reader is prosecuting and brings in Sarah's ex-husband and their teensge son as witnesses. Whilst two expert witnesses appear to endorse this and Sarah's defensive attitude towards her family make her less than cooperative, Costello realises that she may be covering for somebody else.

Costello defends footballer Jordan Sinclair, who has attacked fellow player Dean Trent on the pitch in front of thousands – with Reader prosecuting. Just before court, Costello learns that Sinclair has recently fallen afoul of smug manager Ben Madden, who appears to have coached Trent into needling him.

Now a QC, Reader celebrates with friends and colleagues but festivities are paused when Cowdrey's son is arrested on suspicion of a policeman's murder, while Costello hits the bottle after an Inspector lies in court to frame her client.

Costello is now a QC, but she learns fast that it can be lonely at the top. At Shoe Lane Chambers, times are tough, and senior clerk Billy Lamb struggles to keep things afloat while Reader tries to be stoic about his unsuccessful Silk application. Costello is defending Brendan Kay, a member of one of London's biggest crime outfits, accused of blinding a man who allegedly disrespected their 'number two'. Costello's job is further complicated as Kay's solicitor, Micky Joy, is an old school player of the system who walks both sides of the line. Also up against notorious QC Caroline Warwick, nicknamed Lady MacBeth for her uncompromising approach, Costello feels herself pulled by the various political forces around her, and realises to win she will need an all or nothing defence. Meanwhile, Reader undertakes a sensitive case with new solicitor George Duggan.

A man who, at first, thinks that he'd like to see his wife in bed with another man becomes jealous of the other man, and kills him. But, while he is dumping off the body, he is seen by a runaway. Meanwhile, Chris becomes involved with a clothing designer.

After answering a 10-18, burglary in progress, Chris returns fire on, and kills, one of the delinquents trying to drive away. The other felon disappears, as well as gun belonging to the criminal whom Chris shot at. Now all the evidence of the deceased boy being armed is gone and, to make matters worse, a video tape also makes it look like Chris fired alone. Meanwhile, the dead boy's mother seeks revenge against Lorenzo.

A mysterious woman calls the police to report a murder that is going to happen at Ocean Park, near the carousel. When Lorenzo and Lance get there, they are fired upon, even after identifying themselves. They find out that the man who shot at them was their patrol commander John Stonewell. Now Chris and Rita must face a shooting review board because of their commander's lies.

A woman is found shot-to-death in her shower. The person who found the body was the victim's lover--a ""Shock Radio"" host. Chris' main suspect is the host, but his alibi is that he was doing his live show at the time of the murder. While on the air, an obsessed fan calls in to admit to killing the host's lover. Meanwhile, Chris goes to talk to Melissa, who works at the same radio station.

A baseball-team owner is killed with a baseball bat, while his wife calls 911. The main suspect is a baseball player named DJ Martin. While Chris waits for the suspect, Rita goes to talk to the deceased's estranged son Buddy.

Chris and Rita investigate the death of a surgeon who was murdered with a scalpel. The evidence points to another doctor who was beat out by the deceased for a promotion. Meanwhile, Chris gets reunited with his old friends Howie and Tina. Lorenzo could be falling in love with Tina, but the only problem is that she is married to his friend Howie.

A young girl is found dead by a jogging schoolmate, but Chris and Rita think it is a ""silver platter homicide." Soon, the evidence shows that the girl was gang-raped. In order to stop the killers, Rita goes undercover as a college student.

A woman is found dead in her pool by her next door neighbor. The evidence points to a mystery woman who could also have been the victim's lover. Meanwhile, Chris gets reunited with an old girlfriend, but what will he do when he finds out that she is the ""mystery woman""?

Lorenzo and Lance investigate the murder of a loathed publisher. Chris talks to the deceased's wife, who was about to tell her husband that she wanted a divorce because of his infidelity. The two sergeants also talk to the deceased's business partner who, after his partner's death, was got complete control over the company. The final suspect is the dead man's mistress Avery Benton. Meanwhile, Rita ""runs into"" a concert promoter named Tyler.

However, when the case starts to fall apart, she must remain focused on the trial as both personal and private pressures escalate. Meanwhile, it's decision time for the pupils, and the fate of chambers hangs in the balance.

Costello prosecutes a teacher accused of assaulting a pupil, but believes he is on too serious a charge and is not being properly defended by her colleague Noah Zeigler. Meanwhile, Slade takes on his first major case, and both Costello and Reader have their Silk interviews.
