Heat 5. Live broadcast from Jönköping. The contestants are Saga Ludvigsson, Vilhelm Buchaus, Victoria Silvstedt, Arvingarna, SCARLET and Arwin competing for two spots in the final. Additionally is an extra qualification round where one remaining contestant from each previous heat compete for the last two spots in the final.

Heat 4. Live broadcast from Malmö. The contestants are KAJ, Ella Tiritiello, AmenA, Måns Zelmerlöw, Andreas Lundstedt and Tennessee Tears.

The final took place on 12 March 2016 at the Friends Arena in Stockholm, hosted by Gina Dirawi and William Spetz.

The Second Chance round took place on 5 March 2016 at the Halmstad Arena in Halmstad, hosted by Gina Dirawi, Ola Salo and Peter Jöback. The eight entries that placed third and fourth in the preceding four semi-finals competed during the show in four duels. SVT decided which entries would face off in each duel. Viewers determined the results during the show through telephone, SMS and application voting. Voting in each duel commenced at the start of the first entry's performance and concluded one minute and thirty seconds following the end of the second entry's performance. Executive producer Christer Björkman announced which four entries won their duels and advanced to the final in addition to revealing the running order of the final at the conclusion of the show. "Håll om mig hårt" performed by Panetoz, "Put Your Love on Me" performed by Boris René, "Kizunguzungu" performed by SaRaha and "Bada nakna" performed by Samir and Viktor qualified to the final. A total of 6,059,917 votes were cast by the viewers during the show with a total of 441,443 SEK collected for Radiohjälpen. In addition to the performances of the competing entries, Dirawi, Salo and Jöback opened the show with a cover of Adele's "Skyfall", while the interval acts included a duet by Salo and Jöback titled "Sing Me Out" and Hasse Andersson performing his Melodifestivalen 2015 entry "Guld och gröna skogar". Recurring interval acts that were also part of the show included Jonas Gardell's schlager school and Helena Bergström's portrayals of the characters Lasse and Marianne.

The fourth semi-final took place on 27 February 2016 at the Gavlerinken Arena in Gävle, hosted by Gina Dirawi and Sarah Dawn Finer. "Youniverse" performed by Molly Sandén and "If I Were Sorry" performed by Frans qualified directly to the final, while "Håll om mig hårt" performed by Panetoz and "Rollercoaster" performed by Dolly Style advanced to the Second Chance round. A total of 4,592,313 votes were cast by the viewers during the show with a total of 628,870 SEK collected for Radiohjälpen. In addition to the performances of the competing entries, Dirawi and Finer opened the show with a cover of Guy Sebastian's 2015 Australian Eurovision entry "Tonight Again" titled "Du och jag igen" (English: You and I again), while the interval act featured a performance by Dirawi, Finer and Jon Henrik Fjällgren titled "Hela Sveriges sång" (English: All of Sweden's song). Helena Bergström, who hosted Melodifestivalen 2012 together with Dirawi and Finer, reprised her portrayals of Lasse and Marianne—characters that were part of the interval acts for the 2012 competition. Recurring interval acts such as Jonas Gardell's schlager school and dramatic readings of past Melodifestivalen song lyrics by Swedish actors were also part of the program; Lena Endre performed a dramatic reading of Linda Bengtzing's Melodifestivalen 2006 entry "Jag ljuger så bra".

The third semi-final took place on 20 February 2016 at the Himmelstalundshallen in Norrköping, hosted by Gina Dirawi and Henrik Schyffert. "Human" performed by Oscar Zia and "My Heart Wants Me Dead" performed by Lisa Ajax qualified directly to the final, while "Kizunguzungu" performed by SaRaha and "Put Your Love on Me" performed by Boris René advanced to the Second Chance round. A total of 4,389,051 votes were cast by the viewers during the show with a total of 425,474 SEK collected for Radiohjälpen. In addition to the performances of the competing entries, Dirawi and Schyffert opened the show with a cover of "Under Pressure" originally by Queen and David Bowie, while the interval acts were stand-up comedy by Schyffert and a performance by Dirawi titled "Love Story". Recurring interval acts such as Jonas Gardell's schlager school and dramatic readings of past Melodifestivalen song lyrics by Swedish actors were also be part of the program; Marie Göranzon performed a dramatic reading of Anna Book's Melodifestivalen 2007 entry "Samba Sambero".

The Second Chance (Andra chansen) round was held on 7 March 2015 in Helsingborg Arena, Helsingborg. Unlike in the previous editions, four out of eight competing entries were sent to the final this year. The preliminary two-phase voting introduced in 2013 was eliminated, bringing a duel-only competition back

The final of Melodifestivalen 2009 was held at the Globen arena in Stockholm on 14 March 2009. The favourites to win the contest were Zelmerlöw and Ernman, with the international jury wild card Sofia predicted as most likely to finish last, according to bookmakers.

The fourth and final semi-final was held on 28 February at the new Malmö Arena in Malmö.

The third semi-final was held on 21 February at the Ejendals Arena in Leksand.

The final of Melodifestivalen 2008 was held on 15 March 2008 at the Globe Arena in Stockholm. The eight direct qualifiers and the two Andra Chansen winner competed in the final, where the 11 regional juries of Sweden, along with televoting, selected the winner that would represent Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest 2008. The winner of Melodifestivalen 2008 was Charlotte Perrelli with the song "Hero", receiving a total of 114 points from the juries and 110 points from the televote. The winner of the televote, however, was Sanna Nielsen with "Empty Room".

The third and fourth placed songs in each semifinal perform in Andra Chansen (Second Chance) round. Eight songs performed, paired off against each other. The winners of the first two pairings compete against each other in the first final, while the winners of the other two compete in the second. The winners of the two final pairings go through to the final. The two winners of Andra Chansen that went on to the final were Sibel Redzep with the song "That Is Where I'll Go" and Nordman with the song "I lågornas sken".

The final semi-final of Melodifestivalen 2008 before the Andra chansen round was held on 1 March 2008, at the Telenor Arena in Karlskrona. The final two artists to automatically secure their place in the final were Charlotte Perrelli with "Hero" and Linda Bengtzing with the song "Hur svårt kan det va?". The two artists to proceed to the Andra Chansen round were Sibel Redzep with the song "That Is Where I'll Go" and Nordman with the song "I lågornas sken". The wildcard entry for this semi-final was Niklas Strömstedt with the song "För många ord om kärlek", which came last in the televoting.

The third semi-final of Melodifestivalen 2008 was held at the Cloetta Center in Linköping on 23 February 2008. The two songs that progressed directly to the final were "Lay Your Love on Me" by BWO and "Upp o hoppa" by Frida feat. Headline. The two songs that passed to the Andra Chansen round were "Smiling in Love" by Caracola and "When You Need Me" by Thérèse Andersson. The wildcard entry, "Hallelujah New World" by Eskobar, came last in the televoting and failed to qualify.

The fourth semifinal of Melodifestivalen 2007 took place in Lakerol Arena in Gavle on 24 February 2007.

Melodifestivalen 1999 was the selection for the 39th song to represent Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest. It was the 38th time that this system of picking a song had been used. 1,315 songs were submitted to SVT for the competition. The final was broadcast on SVT2 and Sveriges Radio's P4 network. Charlotte Nilsson went on to win that year's Eurovision Song Contest in Jerusalem, Sweden's fourth Eurovision win. A total of 630,339 votes were cast.

Melodifestivalen 1995 was the selection for the 35th song to represent Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest. It was the 34th time that this system of picking a song had been used. 986 songs were submitted to SVT for the competition. The final was broadcast on TV2 and Sveriges Radio's P3 and P4 networks. The show was watched by 3,646,000 people.

The show was watched by 4,464,000 people.

Melodifestivalen 1987 was the selection for the 27th song to represent Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest. It was the 26th time that this system of picking a song had been used. 1502 songs were submitted to SVT for the competition. The final was broadcast on TV1 and was not broadcast on radio. The winning song's title was changed to "Boogaloo" for the Eurovision Song Contest as it contained chewing gum brand Bugg as well drinks company Coca-Cola in the title.

Melodifestivalen 1985 was the selection for the 25th song to represent Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest. It was the 24th time that this system of picking a song had been used. 90 songs were submitted to SVT for the competition. The final was broadcast on TV1 but was not broadcast on radio. The presenter, Eva Andersson, was the 1980 Miss Sweden. No orchestra was used, as all songs were performed to backing track. There have been claims that this was because SVT could not afford to hire the orchestra for two shows, as they were hosting the Eurovision Song Contest in 1985.
