Series synopsis
Halfworlds is a mystery television series that premiered on HBO Asia on November 29, 2015. It ended on February 26, 2017. It was created by Collin Chang, Joko Anwar. It stars Salvita Decorte, Thanabordee Jaiyen, Nathan Hartono and Tia Taveepanichpan.
In the bustling streets and back alleys of Jakarta, a parallel world of bloodthirsty creatures from Indonesian mythology has lived alongside humans for generations. Taking on the appearance of humans themselves, the true identity of these "Demit" has been carefully concealed for centuries by a powerful family of mortals. Premise
In the bustling streets and back alleys of Jakarta, a parallel world of bloodthirsty creatures from Indonesian mythology has lived alongside humans for generations. Once the Demit realize who Sarah really is, and what she must do, humans and Demit are set on a collision course that could change the balance of their two worlds forever.

Episode 1 A street artist named Sarah has led a tough life being orphaned at a young age and having to fend for herself. Although she hardly remembers her parents, she longs to be in their presence. Sarah’s gift for drawing comes naturally, and oftentimes she finds herself drawing images from folklore; frightening images that she sees in her dreams.Sarah is not alone in the slums of Jakarta, she is joined by her boyfriend Coki, and her best friend Pinung. Sarah’s friends are convinced that she has not let go of the past and what happened to her parents, which is why she keeps drawing the gruesome images she sees in her head. Pinung discovers the countless drawings Sarah has of a strange man on her wall, and Sarah confesses that she does not know who he is.The ordinary life she has longed for for so long is about to become even further out of reach as she finds herself the target of beings called Demit - the same mythological creatures she has been drawing from a world that mere mortals like herself know nothing of. |

Episode 2 Desperate for some answers and convinced that she will find them, Sarah heads to the house of a friend who was murdered a few days ago and whom she always gifted drawings in exchange for food. It is at his house that she meets the mysterious Detective Gusti, who recognises some of the characters in her artwork. Meanwhile in the Demit world, major events are starting to unfold as The Gift draws closer and the search for the parchments continue. Gusti who is aware of the half world informs his boss Juragan of Sarah’s existence.The unrest in Sarah’s heart grows as the day goes by and she suspects that she is being followed. In her state of paranoia, she almost attacks Coki and she is unable to explain the drawings of the strange man to him. |

Episode 3 After being attacked at a café, both Sarah and Pinung are still shaken and they find themselves face to face with Detective Gusti once again. Little does Sarah know that he is keeping tabs for Juragan and is keeping him updated on Sarah’s whereabouts. Gusti advices her not to dig any deeper as she might find herself in more trouble than she can handle. Meanwhile, Tony and Ros, a powerful Demit couple visit the Elders and strike a deal with them, leaving with the promise of bringing back Barata’s head, in exchange for receiving the gift. The Demit that saved Sarah and Pinung from the coffee shop reveals himself as Barata when he visits Sarah at her home that night. Before he disappears once again, he warns her to get rid of all the drawings. Sarah starts to realise that perhaps there is a Halfworld that exists hidden in the shadows after all. |
