Maximilian and Marie De Bourgogne, also known as Maximilian - Das Spiel von Macht und Liebe is a German drama war & politics television series that premiered on ZDF on March 1, 2017. It ended on March 3, 2017. It stars Stefan Pohl, Christa Théret, André Penvern and Björn Freiberg.
Known as The Last Knight for his bravery and battle skills, the great European emperor Maximilian and his story is as spectacular as it is familiar: It is the story of a prince who must learn to be king. But above all, it is the struggle of a son who steps out of his father's shadow with the help of a most unexpected ally: Marie de Bourgogne.

Emperor Friedrich needs money to fund his war against Hungary. His son Maximilian is supposed to propose marriage to Maria. |

Episode 2 Put under pressure by French King Louis, the citizens of Ghent storm Marie's palace and make her sign a contract in which she agrees to marry Louis' son Charles. She sends Joan, her lady-in-waiting, to Maximilian, who is instantly smitten by Marie's portrait. Joan returns to Ghent with Maximilian's letter announcing his visit. Louis threatens war against Burgundy should Marie breach the contract. |

Episode 3 French King Louis won't allow Marie to bury her father's body in Burgundy. Instead, he forces her counsellors to accept him as their lawful ruler. When Marie refuses to marry Charles, French troops invade Burgundy, ravaging its provinces. On his journey to Ghent Maximilian has caught the plague. Confined to his sickbed, he is unable to rush to her side and help her fight her numerous enemies. |
