Tony finds himself in unfamiliar surroundings when he travels to Texas to assist the local district attorney in the case of Darius Grady, who is accused of murdering his wife and two children.

A police psychologist pursues a serial killer who tortures homosexual victims in increasingly gruesome ways.

As Dr. Hill closes in on the homophobic psychopath, he almost falls victim to him, or her. Who can tell?

Dr. Hill strives to deduce the connection between the bodies of two teenage girls dumped in a lake and the motives for their murder.

Tony's patient, the child killer Maggie, is on the verge of revealing where she buried her victims, but Tony and the police are distracted by a serial murder case involving the roommate of one of his students.

The remains of corpses are discovered whilst new foundations are being dug at the Norton Hotel, a building which stands on the site of an abbey, a fact which leads to a suspicion that these were religious killings. Then the hotel is burnt down and,as the first of a series of murders takes place, Carol asks for Tony's involvement. The strange thing is that these murders are identical to those committed some five hundred years earlier.

Newly promoted to Detective Chief Inspector, Carol investigates a murder which seems to bear the hallmark of gang boss Gavin Cochran. However Cochran is behind bars for murder and could not have done it. Carol asks Tony to work out any links between the two slayings, leading to the arrest of Cochran's brother George. But there is a fight during which George ends up in a coma. Gavin is released from prison for a compassionate visit, during which another killing takes place, allowing Tony to test his theory and trap the murderer.

When a rapist who was convicted on Tony's evidence is released Tony appears to be discredited. To make matters worse Carol has left for South Africa without even saying goodbye to him. He offers his help to her successor, Alex, another female officer, when a number of young women are found dead, their bodies buried in fields. Tony relates this to a sado-masochistic Internet site used by the murderer to lure his victims to their fate by playing, and then preying, on their sexual fantasies.

In each case the victims - a property developer, a bishop, a judge - were brutally killed and the killers then immediately committed suicide. When an 11-year old girl is seen being dragged into a car kicking and screaming, the police issue an Amber alert. The police investigate a series of rapes and murder of young, professional women in the Bradford area. After attacking them, he dresses the victim in a previous victims clothes and leaves their ID on the body. Tony attends a conference of psychologists, where he is a guest speaker and where he meets an old friend Rachel White, another delegate. He has drinks with her in her room but leaves before having sex. Next morning she is found dead and he was the last person to see her alive, marking him as a suspect. Then another psychologist is also murdered whilst Alex investigates a serial killer whose targets are prostitutes.
