Welcome to Rügen Office hours with a Baltic Sea view instead of Caribbean waves: Not entirely by choice, former ship’s doctor Nora Kaminski ends up on Rügen. The 42-year-old physician is grappling with financial troubles. Her savings barely cover a room in a “characterful, old captain’s house,” where hot water is not guaranteed, and her eccentric landlord, Matthias Samland, gives her the cold shoulder. |

Things get cramped when Nora’s now-grown son, Kai, moves into the doctors’ shared flat. The law student from Berlin claims he’s on Rügen to finish an important term paper. So far, though, only the title is written on the cover page. Something doesn’t add up. |
