Springwatch returns from a brand new location in the heart of the Cotswolds - the National Trust's Sherborne Park Estate. Chris Packham and Michaela Strachan are joined by Gillian Burke and Martin Hughes-Games to bring an intimate look into the daily lives of the animals we know best - those that live and breed in the heart of the British countryside. The series launches with some old favorites - blue tits in a nest box plus a pair of barn owls. There are also some Springwatch 'firsts' - a jay nest perched precariously on the branch of a spruce tree, and a glorious red kite nest overlooking the whole valley. We also meet a pair of peregrines on a nest with one of the most spectacular views in the country - 200 feet up on the spire of Salisbury Cathedral.

Chris Packham and Michaela Strachan are live in Gloucestershire with the latest from the nest cameras - with dramatic overnight developments from the sloping jay nest and an update on a Spingwatch 'first' - our gorgeous red kites. Meanwhile, Martin Hughes-Games and Gillian Burke are further afield on the Sherborne Estate, using some of the latest drone technology to try to track down an elusive mammal - the brown hare. There are also reports from around the country including a check-in to see how our peregrine falcon is faring high up on Salisbury cathedral, and a scrapyard that one man has allowed nature to reclaim for itself.

The blue tits are in increasing danger from an inquisitive great-spotted woodpecker, the badgers make their first appearance of the series, and a nest full of chiff chaffs fledge into the undergrowth. Gillian Burke is exploring some of the smaller creatures on the estate, Martin Hughes-Games has travelled to Thetford forest to get hands on with a Tawny Owl and Lucy Cooke introduces how a simple object can connect us to the natural world in surprising ways.

Steve Backshall is upping the ante with his latest mission, climbing one of the state's ancient, or veteran oaks, in order to see what he can find, and to spend the night at the top of it. Gillian Burke has arrived in a different part of Shetland where she catches up with a special family of otters - including some intimate moments rarely caught on camera. We have the latest update from the raven family on the Gower, and a film about one incredible species of slug - the tree slug - which climbs up into the canopy every night to feed. Chris Packham in particular is a fan, and exhorts viewers to join his new slug appreciation society.

It is May Bank holiday and Springwatch is back – launching a week of special 90-minute programmes celebrating all the very best of our UK wildlife. Broadcasting live from the Dell of Abernethy in the Cairngorms, Chris Packham, Iolo Williams and Michaela Strachan profile this special wilderness and the animals that live there. Meanwhile, Gillian Burke is in Cornwall bringing topical reports on the state of our coastal wildlife. In the first show the presenters launch the largest Springwatch citizen science project ever attempted. Working with the British Trust for Ornithology, Garden Watch asks people to survey the wildlife living in their gardens in the hope of helping scientists build a comprehensive report of exactly what lives on the nation’s doorsteps.

Springwatch returns for 2020 with a dramatic, exciting and different format to comply with Covid restrictions. The team are broadcasting live from locations close to home - Chris Packham is in the New Forest, Iolo Williams is in the heart of west Wales, and Gillian Burke is at the Beaver Project near her home in Cornwall. They are joined by guest presenter Steve Backshall at his home on the banks of the Thames. It is the first time they have all been home for more than a decade so a fantastic opportunity to celebrate and witness the incredible spring of 2020 from all round the country. And Michaela calls Chris live from South Africa to launch a series of her favourite Springwatch moments from previous years.

Intrepid sound recordist Gary Moore records the incredible urban dawn chorus of songbirds which have been such a feature of spring 2020 .

The call of the cuckoo is a sure sign spring has arrived, and Michaela wants to hear it first-hand! Megan McCubbin revels in Kielder Forest being one of the best dark sky locations in the UK and what that means for its wildlife. Over on the Isle of Mull, Iolo Williams is investigating the comings and goings of one of his all-time favourite birds, the hen harrier.

Chris Packham and Michaela Strachan are broadcasting from RSPB Arne in Dorset, where spring is in full swing and the nest cameras are rigged, so they’re ready to capture all the drama of the season. Plus, an exploration, not only RSPB Arne but the wider area of Purbeck, a new and very super NNR. Gillian Burke is embarking on a wildlife exploration of her own as she sets off to explore Snowdonia National Park.

Featuring a smorgasboard of wildlife: mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, inverts and a botany bonanza. Michaela Strachan heads out in search of all six of Britain's native reptile species, while Chris Packham gets into the finer detail of some of our nests on site at RSPB Arne. Plus, a meet up with the series's resident botanist as they uncover some rather revealing revelations about British flora, while Gillian Burke goes in search of some of Snowdonia’s brilliant bats.

With Springwatch now in full swing and the Dorset heathland making for a truly tremendous cast of characters, some exciting new nests are launched. Chris Packham and Michaela Strachan unpack the overnight drama from the key characters, while there's a search of some of the heathland’s resplendent inverts. Gillian Burke continues her Snowdonia exploration and is out looking for Britain's only venomous snake, the adder. There's also the 'swift man’, an 81-year-old who has dedicated over a decade to building boxes for swifts. His current total is 64,000, and he shows no signs of stopping!
