The winter lobster season is in full swing. Squizzy, skipper of Bold Contender, is under pressure to fill a special order of 600 brindle lobsters. Ansons Bay is dead in the water as its engine has stopped working, and stormy weather and rough seas have plagued the Minnamurra. It's been a horror start for skipper Clive. Meanwhile, Danny, skipper of the William Norling, is hunting for big reds in the Bass Strait and he's received some good news: the all-in price of lobsters has spiked.

Aussie Lobster Men follows the real-life dramas of six lobster boat captains as they risk it all in search of the world's most prized seafood delicacy, Tasmanian Rock Lobster.

Squizzy, skipper of the Bold Contender, is heading out early hoping to get a jump on the fleet and capitalise on the red-hot lobster price, which is at a season-high. He's hunting around Bruny Island in Southern Tasmania, targeting 1,900 brindle lobsters during the season, and he's under huge financial pressure to pull it off.

The lobster price is holding strong above 100 dollars per kilo, but the lobster boat teams have all run into major problems. Team Kai Koura and Team Ansons Bay are targeting a combined total of 1,000 big reds, but they only have five days to make it pay.

Newcomer Steve Hursey is pulling his first shot of the winter run, and there's a lot riding on it. The Hursey family's sea-to-plate restaurant is low on lobster stocks, and it's Steve's job to re-fill them. He's fishing around Hunter Island, an area known for giant reds and howling westerly winds, but the weather is the least of Steve's worries. The rope line to one of his pots is tangled, and it's threatening to pull deckhand Jamie overboard.

The crews face their greatest challenge as the pandemic has crashed the price of lobster. While Squizzy tries to sell direct to the public, Cracker and Jay are both in huge debt.

Greenhorn Skipper Bryce is up to his eyeballs in debt. After buying a new boat for $150,000 and spending a further $90,000 refurbishing it, the cash-strapped rookie can't afford a deckhand and embarks on his maiden voyage solo. Skipper Squizzy and Tabor are halfway through their five-day run. Squizzy has had to re-mortgage his house to keep his business afloat. They have just 48 hours to hit their target, and then comes the hard part: selling 500kg of lobsters direct to punters.

The hunt for red gold heats up, and the lobster men are forced to put everything on the line. Rookie skipper Bryce needs to catch at least 100kg, while Cracker discovers that his secret fishing spot has been invaded by other boats.

It's peak season on Tasmania's west coast for lobster hunting, and with a short window to gather as much as they can before bad weather, the boys try their best. Squizzy works hard to fulfil an order of 200 kilograms of lobster.

Bryce races out early. Myles tops the tally-board and Jack remains grounded.
