In the premiere episode, the Chief of Surgery ends up in a coma, and his fiancée and fellow surgeons fight to save his life.

Alex Reid treats a young boy with mysterious symptoms while dealing with the arrival of Charlie's ex-wife. Elsewhere in the hospital, Joel Goran and Maggie Lin try to help a patient who refuses life-saving treatment on religious grounds.

After Charlie’s hand moved in the last episode, Alex has high hopes for his recovery, while she treats a patient who already has multiple surgeries under his belt. Meanwhile, Charlie coaches a young man killed in a roofing accident who has unfinished business with his severely injured brother.

Alex and Charlie are caught in the middle of a shooting on their way to their first shift back at Hope Zion. In the midst of the commotion, Alex treats a bullied teenager and deals with her own emotions about everything that’s happened in the past year. Meanwhile, Charlie is caught off guard when he realizes that he’s still able to see the spirits of deceased patients. As well, new Chief of Surgery Joel works alongside Charlie’s ex-wife Dawn to perform an intense surgery.

Alex must learn to stick up for herself and not be intimidated by Dawn (Charlie’s ex-wife) in order to work alongside her and perform a minimally invasive heart procedure to save a patient’s life. Meanwhile, Joel unlocks a mystery to a young girl’s disease, while getting some advice from Charlie, who is trying to figure out how to help his comatose patient come back from being a spirit. It’s a week of defying the odds at Hope Zion Hospital.

Alex is trying to get her life back to normal with Charlie and at Hope Zion Hosital – but with Charlie’s head in the clouds and the pressure to find her medical niche – she’s struggling. Inspiration comes in the form of an immigrant doctor who needs Alex to save his wife’s life, and in return, helps her find her calling.

Alex was stabbed in the chest and Charlie sees her as ghost. Alex realizes she saw her father hang himself. Joel has issues with himself about Alex. Maggie end hers and Gavin's relationship. Alex end up in coma and remains ghost.

Alex's spirit shares an emotional journey with Charlie in the spirit world. Joel treats a drug addicts necrotic leg and strikes up a unlikely close bond to the patient. Dr. Sydney Katz begins her new job throwing Maggie off her game.

Alex is awake but still not back to her old self, and Dawn has given strict orders for her recovery plan. Meanwhile, Charlie and Joel square‐off over differing treatment options when two fused-together burn victims are brought into the ER, and Maggie finds herself in a whirlwind of emotions triggered from the fallout of her miscarriage.

On her first day back from maternity leave, Dr. Alex Reid has her hands full when a new mother comes in following a car accident.

Alex makes a promise to a young girl on her birthday. Maggie organizes a surprise party for Alex. Cassie is forced to confront her fear of infectious diseases.
