Une Dose 2 Metal

"Many associate artistic precision and musical talent with the tattoo artists we have in the Philippines." A Dose 2 Metal takes you to the Philippines, home to one of the most active metal scenes in Asia, as well as a deeply rooted tattooing tradition. This is in stark contrast to China, where tattooed individuals, historically prisoners, are still frowned upon by society. In these countries, numerous tattooed people and tattoo artists, many of whom are also musicians in metal or hardcore bands, analyze the connections between metal and the art of ink, as well as their shared demands. Did you know that Sebastian "Baste" Duterte, the son of the Philippine president, is himself tattooed and a metal fan?

The Great Wall of Metal, a film by Olivier Richard, is dedicated to the Chinese metal scene. "I have to think about our band's career in China; we can't talk about politics. If someone heard us, we could get killed." While metal may be the favorite genre of Chinese rockers, it takes uncommon faith to embark on the metal adventure in the land of censorship. Yet thousands have tried, across the Middle Kingdom, from Beijing to Inner Mongolia and Sichuan. In this episode, A Dose of Metal explores a burgeoning Chinese metal scene in a country where the general public is more drawn to pop, while the Wacken Open Air Festival organizes a showcase in a legendary Beijing venue.

"Around the age of 14, I began to question the law and religions. In 1991, I decided to use music as a weapon and as a means of expression." Horror films, fantasy, occultism, folklore, and pagan culture have inspired and shaped the imagery of Metal. In this episode of Une Dose 2 Metal, presented by Stéphane Buriez (Loudblast), trace the roots of Black Metal, Gothic music, and Satanism with distinguished guests: Attila Csihar, the singer of Mayhem; Nergal, the frontman of the Polish band Behemoth; the iconic Abbath of Immortal; and even a Nameless Ghoul from the band Ghost (but perhaps it was Tobias Forge himself, who knows?).

Director Olivier Richard and Stéphane Buriez, leader of the band Loudblast and presenter of Une dose 2 metal, went to meet Lemmy's close friends and family. Among them were Mikkey Dee and Phil Campbell, respectively drummer and guitarist of Motörhead, interviewed backstage at the Zenith in Munich during their concert on November 21st; the musicians of Girlschool; and Peter "Biff" Byford, the singer of the English heavy metal band, as well as longtime friends and touring partners.
