Lea invites Rita to join her family for dinner, echoing a day in 1985 when teenage Rita had dinner with Lea's parents and was called to Lea's rescue.

A bomb threat scares the whole school — except Rita. Hjørdis worries that her and Uffe's strange hobbies will hurt their son socially when he's older.

Rita, who hates cooking, struggles to fill in as a home economics teacher. Hjørdis tries to help Allan overcome his fears about an upcoming field trip.

Rita has settled down in Molly's apartment and works in a burger bar, much to Molly's chagrin. When Molly, on behalf of Rita, sends a job application, Rita ends up with a job offer from her former primary school, which she reluctantly accepts. Hjørdis, out of concern for Rita, applies for a job at the same school, so she can be there for her.

To combat loneliness, Rita invites some students to her house. Meanwhile, Hjordis tries to spice up her sex life with Uffe.

A problem student goes on a destructive rampage, Hjordis makes progress with her second graders, and a man from Rita's past shows up.

Helle hires a motivational coach for the students. Meanwhile Jeppe moves in with his boyfriend, and Rita struggles with living on her own.

Inspired by local politics, Rita holds an election in her class. Uffe gets a job at the school, but it sparks conflict with Hjordis.

Hearing that Kip is performing with another band comes as a relief to Rita and Patty, who thought that he was cheating on Hallie. When Rita hears the songs the new band writes, it ignites a fire in her and she tries to write some tunes of her own. She has a hard time, but finds inspiration through Jay when he reminds her of letters she once wrote to him.

When Owen spends more time practicing with the band than searching for a job, his wife kicks him out of the house. Rita and Jay invite him to stay at their house for a while, and Owen gets a peek at a different side of his band mate that he doesn't expect.

When Rita is called for jury duty and Jay, after much of Rita's nagging, joins a committee that turns out to be just an excuse for dads to watch sports, they enjoy how relaxing their new responsibilities are and realize they need to make free time a priority. Much to Rita's dismay, Hallie and Kip become vegetarians.

Hallie considers having sex with Kip after her friends constantly pressure her into doing so. When Rita finds out, she tries to advise Hallie in the right direction. Shannon invites Jay to Career Day at her school.
